Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Sandakan Pickup, Sepilok Orangutans & Twilight River Safari
Morning pickup in Sandakan. Visit Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to watch the 10:00 AM feeding. Continue to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Overland drive to Sukau on the Kinabatangan River. Check-in to your eco-lodge. At 16:00, embark on your first twilight river cruise to search for proboscis monkey harems and riverine birds.
Day 2: Dawn Mist River Cruise, Oxbow Lake & Night Jungle Walk
Awaken to gibbon calls at 06:00 AM. Board boats for a dawn cruise toward Kelenanap Oxbow Lake. Morning mist yields high chances of spotting wild pygmy elephants and rare storm's storks. Return for breakfast. Afternoon free for boardwalk birdwatching. At 16:00, take an afternoon safari cruise along tributary streams. After dinner, join a guided night walk to find sleeping kingfishers and glowing fungi.
Day 3: Gomantong Caves & Return to Sandakan
Breakfast at the lodge. Check-out and journey to Gomantong Caves, renowned for edible swiftlet bird nests and bat roosts. Walk along the raised boardwalk inside Simud Hitam cave. Transfer back to Sandakan Airport in time for late afternoon departures.
